In the first place musicians are to be paid for their music played but here in Ghana musicians rather have to pay for their music before it gets airplay on radio.
‘Pay before Play’ popularized as ‘Payola’ describes the action of taking money from artistes in exchange for their songs being played on radio and TV platforms.
In a recent Facebook post, Ghanaian DJ known as Djbrusky Pennien who work with Ahotor Fm has warned musicians never to bring their songs to him without money.
According to him he has his reasons for the statement even though he’s aware that Payola is illegal.
