Corruption record under supposed incorruptible leader, President Nana Akufo-Addo is nothing to write home about.
This is the assertion of deputy Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kwaku Boahen.
He claimed that corruption is like a ‘designer perfume’ on President Akufo-Addo which spreads everywhere he goes.
Mr Boahen made the comment on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Wednesday while commenting on the inaction of the Special Prosecutor, Mr Martin Amidu.
The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed concerns about the delay in the prosecution of corruption-related cases by the Special Prosecutor.
In a riposte, the Office of the Special Prosecutor said it will soon hit the ground running by publishing a list of institutions and individuals who have allegedly directly or indirectly caused financial loss to the State.
But, Mr Boahen said Mr Amidu was forced to react because his office is reeling under pressure.
He claimed the Akufo-Addo government is frustrating the Special Prosecutor after he [Amidu] hinted of prosecuting some government officials.
“Even a child on the street knows President Akufo-Addo is corrupt so the Special Prosecutor is just a smokescreen to shield his corrupt appointees,” he said in Twi.
The NDC deputy Communications Director said the government has been hit with several corruption allegations and all the perpetrators have been cleared.
He noted that, although the NDC when in government strived to ensure probity and accountability, recent developments within the Akufo-Addo government appears to be eroding all the gains.
Mr Boahen accused President Akufo-Addo of superintending over ‘corruption and nepotism’ of historic proportions.
The only way to save Ghana, he added, is for the electorate to vote massively for the NDC in the 2020 general election.
