A Piece Of Motivational Inspiration From Peter Tosh

The Reggae legend, Peter Tosh
If you interview musicians, actors, actresses or writers, around the world, many may reveal what inspired them to choose those careers.

I love to write, no matter the weight of insults poured on me, by those who hate and can’t stand this writer because I have thousands of readers that love what I write. I don’t struggle for readers, by God’s Grace, I have over 7,000 followers on LinkedIn and over 6,000 on Twitter.

In fact, the more I am being verbally attacked by faceless false names people, the more I am inspired to write.

In this way, apart from music which gives me inspiration, my enemies also play a role in my inspiration. One of my favourite Reggae tunes is Peter Tosh’s “I’m the Toughest.”

“Anything you can do, I can do it better, I’m the toughest, And I can do what you can’t do, You’ll never try to do what I do, I’m the toughest. Stop from doing wrongs, Change your foolish plans, Stop from doing wrongs, Just live up like a man.”

If you love music and often watch MTV or other music television channels, they play and promote all kinds of music but play less reggae music because the message the music carries is sharper than a double-edged sword.

Music stations don’t like playing much reggae music because they can’t stand the words. It constantly reminds them of the crime they committed against humanity, especially black people; instead, they like to play reggae love tunes.

Most of the reggae musicians I interviewed, including Lucky Dube, Andrew Tosh, Anthony B, and Joseph Hill of Culture, did mention about this topic, therefore, you must understand the reason Lucky Dube played the tune “Reggae Strong.”

The interesting part is when he revealed to me that he was inspired by Peter Tosh. Lucky Dube sings, “Everybody likes Reggae, yet they tried to kill it many years ago by killing and destroying the prophets, however, since Reggae is strong, no one can stop it.”

Then other great words from Bob Marley in “Redemption Song” “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, None but ourselves can free our minds, Have no fear for atomic energy, ‘Cause none of them can stop the time, How long shall they kill our prophets, While we stand aside and look? Ooh, Some say it’s just a part of it, We’ve got to fulfill the Book.”

These are the kind of words in music I listen to and when behind my computer, I write without ceasing.

I respect all the musicians who defend what they called “The Sacred Plant,” but I personally don’t go into it. From my childhood to this ripe-age, I don’t smoke cigarettes, marijuana or do drugs.

I have a beautiful family, another powerful source of inspiration and proud to be married to the same woman close to 26 years now.

Without passion, there will never be the desire to do anything you love in this world. That’s why I am still writing and I will continue until the day my last breath leaves me.
